Greetings, Red Oak Rotarians!
Man! Was last week a busy one! Thank you to everyone who helped with our semi-annual highway clean-up! Our crew of eight was able to clean our entire assigned area (2 miles!) in about an hour.
And then, on Friday night - the polio chili cook-off - wow! While we didn't have the attendance we had hoped for, we had good participation, and we had really good representatin from the club. We had a ten members who helped set up, volunteer during the event, and clean-up. We had two more members bring their family to enjoy chili and pie. We even had our District Governor come be a judge. Final numbers are not yet available, but it looks like we'll be really close to our PolioPlus donation goal. Thank you to all!
We are wrapping up the first quarter of our year, so I've compiled an update on our club goals. Be sure to check out the update in the stories section of this newsletter.
Our first club social is coming up this week. On Tuesday, Oct. 1, we will gather at Arlington Place to listen to Al Hayes share his experiences during World War II. Meat and drinks will be provided, but plan to bring a side dish or a dessert. This is an opportunity to hear an incredible, real-life story and to socialize with community members, fellow Rotarians, and residents at Arlington. I hope all of you are able to attend!
Finally, the new club shirts have arrived. We have short-sleeve, long-sleeve, and tank tops available. Each shirt is $20. If you did not pre-order one, fear not! We do have extras available. In short-sleeve, we have 1 medium and 3 large shirts; in long-sleeve, we have 1 medium, 1 large, and 2 extra-large shirts; in tank tops, we have 2 medium, 2 large, and 2 extra-large available. I will try to have the shirts available at the social on Tuesday and at our meetings in October.
Respectfully,
