Greetings, Red Oak Rotarians!
Welcome to fall! Cooler temps, crisp air, and cozy hoodies are all around us now. As I enter this season I tend to get a bit more reflective. The magnitude of my blessings is somehow always clearer this time of year. Maybe it's because Thanksgiving is around the corner and everyone asks, "what are you thankful for this year?" Maybe it's because there is a bit of a lull in my schedule between football and basketball, so I have more time on my hands to reflect.
Whatever the reason, one blessing I continue to return to is my membership in our club. It probably sounds crazy, but I am so very grateful to be part of this club and to have the privelege of being the president this year. And I'm crazy proud of us! We do incredible things for our community and for the world beyond the boundaries of our community.
Just this week, District Polio Chair Gary Bren visited our club. He gave us a big-picture, global overview of the mission to eradicate polio. Last week, I issued a challenge to see if we could meet the district's goal for our club for Polio Plus ($1,184). We'd already met our club goal of $1,000. And you know what? We met and EXCEEDED the district's goal for us! We were able to present Gary with a symbolic check of $1,197. I'm so proud of us, and you should be, too. Gary said that he knows of larger clubs in our district who have not donated that much to PolioPlus.
I have taken the Rotary Club shirts out of my car (FINALLY). If you would like one, please let me know and we will coordinate to get it to you. All shirts, regardless of style or size are $20. We have short-sleeve, long-sleeve and tank tops available.
As you go through to busy-ness of your week, I hope you take a moment to reflect on your blessings. What are YOU thankful for this year?
Respectfully,
Emily H. Martin
